Couples

DeVine Interventions Group utilizes a family systems approach to marital counseling.  Families are systems of interconnected individuals. The family cannot be understood or helped by focus upon the individuals.  It is the family unit that must be treated.  The behavior changes of the individuals occur primarily by external forces, not internal.  As the individuals within the family better understand the family as a dynamic unit, they can together transform their interactions.  Everyone gets better when the family is functioning better.

As a therapist, I bring not just my knowledge of family systems psychology to this work, I bring skills honed from working with couples, personal experience from my own family struggles, biblical wisdom, values, and faith.  I eschew routine and pat answers, staying curious and investigative, open to multiple causes of problems and nuances of interpretation.  Solutions are co-developed by therapist and clients.

Your first responsibility in the process of couples therapy is to exercise faith.  Even if you come to me for help with only a tiny seed of faith that your relationship can be saved, we will build on this seed.  Be open to learning.  An inability to see one's contribution to the family dysfunction and recalcitrant blaming is a common inhibitor to healing and wholeness.  Counseling can at times be confrontational, and this may cause offense, but confrontation will always be gentle and with concern for the client's well being.  Successful clients learn humility, the ability to be introspective, to hold oneself accountable, and most importantly, the capacity to forgive.

Call me for a phone consultation, and we will determine if we will make a good team in couples therapy.  As stated before, consultation is free.  (NOTE:  Typically, insurance companies will not pay for couples or family therapy, though there are exceptions.)

If you are experiencing severe and persistent depression, anxiety that you just can't overcome, or are having hallucinations, DeVine Interventions Group can help.  If you are suicidal, call 911.  Would God have you give up?  Is His arm too short to help?  He is willing and able to help, and DeVine Interventions Group is willing and able to help you cope with hallucinations, overcome anxiety and/or improve your mood.  These are our areas of expertise.  Call us for a free consultation that is safe and confidential. (Unless, as stated above, you are having suicidal or homicidal thoughts.  Do get immediate help by calling 911 or the Suicide Prevention Line at 1-800-273-8255 or text 741-741.
